Mikey Thomas

Director

Clintonville native, Mikey Thomas, has returned to Columbus after a decade of working over seas and in various states throughout the U.S. He has a MFA in choreography from The Ohio State University and his work includes filling positions as a faculty member of several university dance programs (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Goucher College).

Currently residing in Columbus, he is the active Director of Movement Activities in the burgeoning arts neighborhood, Franklinton. Previously, Mikey worked as an independent choreographer and dancer in NYC, where he was also a member of the Sean Curran Company. Distinguishing awards include citations at the Toronto Fringe Festival, Prague Fringe Festival, the New York Fringe Festival, and inclusion in the Kenny Center College Choreography Initiative.

Mikey teaches varied movement courses from movement composition to video dance skills, in addition to a variety of dance technique styles. He is most noted for works that approach dance with a bit of irreverence via context. Computer assisted manipulation of sound scores is a pastime and often infiltrates his dances. Mikey has a strong love affair with contemporary art and performance, aerial dance, and Boston terriers.

Charlene Venci

Instructor

Charlene has been head over heels for all things aerial since 2016. Trained locally in Columbus, she has experience in Lyra, Silks, Trapeze and Pole. When she's not in the air or coding away at her day job as a software engineer, she enjoys spending time with her three cats, watching musicals and playing board games.

Crissi Badurina

Guest Instructor & Studio Intern

Crissi is a frequent guest instructor at Movement Activities as well as our social media and administrative princess. She stumbled upon Movement Activities in 2015 while seeking an alternative means of creative movement during a dance hiatus where she immediately fell in love with aerial dance and never looked back. Crissi regularly trains on the static trapeze, but also has experience in dance trapeze and aerial hoop. In 2018 she began duo trapeze sequencing. When she's not twirling in the air, Crissi spends her time designing spaces, playing with cats, practicing yoga and cooking all the veggies!

Shannon Bash

Studio Intern

Shannon has been a participant at Movement Activities for three years and began serving as our studio intern in the fall of 2018. Her primary apparatus is the static trapeze, but she also hones her skills on the aerial hoop. Prior to finding aerial arts, Shannon found creative movement through hooping, fire hooping, and yoga. She received her 200 hour YTT in 2015. Shannon loves aerial as a fun and exciting way to build strength and discover the body's various capabilities. She continues to explore her creativity all while helping us maintain the studio space.
